I was spoiled, now I 'm finding it hard to manage my time in college. I wasn 't used to studying vigorously because I knew that if I failed a test, I could just re-take it. Now that I 'm not given that opportunity, I study non-stop, narrative essays about life. If I knew about this beforehand, it would 've prepared me for the rigid ways of…. I soon adapted the attitude to do just enough to pass and therefore never really applied myself fully. Writing essays became a daunting task whenever this type of assignment was given. When I entered the English class at Community College, even though I had reservations about how well I would do I decided I would fully apply myself. For example, during the research essay I struggled to display all the information I required without sounding like a broken record. Once I began to attend college I knew that I had a lot of work to do in order to become a strong and effective writer. I am in such a good place right now in school and home life. Being in college is such a transition from what I am used to. I have been put into this new environment and am slowly learning to adapt being that it is my second week. First of all, I had to move to another place other than the one where my parents had raised me. For others in my dormitory, the process of integrating into dormitory life and feeling like home in their rooms appeared to come naturally but it was not that easy for me. The whole process was highly emotional for me because I had the feeling that being so comfortable in the room would be like betraying my parents who had always taught me that our home was the most important place to cherish. Overall, however, the process taught me an important lesson of the importance of moving away and establishing my own life separate from my parents. The other issue associated with joining my first year in college that was life-changing as well is the part where I had to make new friends.


When I arrived at college, I had no friends at all. Making friends at home had always been an easy task, given that our home was located in a gated community and my parents often visited the neighbors. As a result, I had a very good platform to make friends. To make things even better, most of the children in our neighborhood went to the school where I was enrolled and as such, when I joined the school, I had some sort of a soft landing with regard to making friends. In college, however, I had to make friends from scratch and it was a really humbling and insightful moment. Today, I realize that the phase of my life was one of the most significant.


However, what I am grateful for is that I have loads of sweet memories and experience that helps me deal with interpersonal issues in my everyday life.
